Architecture often challenges us to shift perspectives and problem solve in creative new ways. Award-winning visual strategist Dan Goods is an artist who works with space engineers to translate some of the universe’s most complex and abstract concepts into meaningful stories that can be universally understood. Dan runs The Studio at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a world-class team of creatives that brings concepts like rocket science down to earth. Their work appears in public spaces, art museums, and even outer space. After hours, Dan collaborates on exhibits and installations worldwide. He co-founded the Museum of Awe and Wonder, an interactive experience of art, theater, science, and surprise, with fellow Day 2 keynoter David Delgado.
Dan graduated valedictorian from Art Center College of Design. A frequent speaker, he was recently selected as “One of the most interesting people in Los Angeles” by LA Weekly. He earned a silver International Design Excellence Award for his eCLOUD sculpture, which features unique polycarbonate tiles that fade between transparent and opaque states based on real-time weather in cities around the world.
What lies beneath
How do you uncover the unseen? Or express the wonders of the universe beyond facts and figures? Dan’s immersive experiences address both challenges. He has recreated Jupiter’s infrared lightning storms, illustrated our galaxy’s vastness by drilling a hole in a grain of sand, and demonstrated the difficulties of finding planets behind bright stars via a light installation.
